About Getting the Children Outdoors

With the encouragement of several followers, I had my sites set on creating an outdoor curriculum which could be taught in the classroom, public or homeschooled.  Not being one who likes to reinvent the wheel, I began to do some research and came across Acorn Naturalists  which provides educational books and tools for trail, as well as the classroom.

After ordering their catalog, I realized the extent of their product line was way more than I could create on my own.  Acorn Naturalists has activities, teaching tools, and kits that cover a variety of natural and outdoor activities and lessons for all ages; particularly preschool through middle grades.

For those outdoor enthusiast, I implore you take an interest in involving young children in your business or hobby.  I had written an earlier post in my blog called Changing the Looks of Things about inviting people into what you do to give them a better perception.  I'm not a writer.  Sometimes I even wonder if folks actually get what it is I'm trying to say.  Changing the Looks of Things is about inviting people into what you do so they may see first hand; Peak their interest and inspire them to want to try and experience new things.  The best way to ensure a thriving business, if you sell, create or provide some sort of natural, hunting, fishing or scouting product is to involve our next generation; our children.  Where you have children, you also have parents who may also be encouraged to experience the same activities.

Georgia Outdoor News (GON) Children's Event
By creating seasonal learning camps and/or sporting events, as the one's created throughout the year by outdoor recreation suppliers such as Bass Pro Shops and outdoor hunting magazines such as GON (Georgia Outdoor News) aimed at children and young adults, you not only get the attention and loyalty of parents, but you will also get the support of future generations!

Event sponsored by NRA
A year ago, the NRA, alongside a prominent local business, sponsored a Youth Hunting Education Challenge.  This challenge allowed children to experience archery, fishing, gun safety, shooting skeet, BB Gun challenges, arrowhead creation, snake identification and safety, as well as many other fun and educational events they may have otherwise not have had the opportunity to experience.  It was a free event, providing free t-shirts, hunter safety books and meals for anyone who attended.  What do you think this service did for our community, and our up and coming generation of hunters?  With more and more men not being in the home, these type of day camps may be the only exposure young children have to getting outdoors, understanding gun safety and other aspects of hunting.
My daughter just got her face painted at GON 2012 Event
The investment you make in our children is an investment you have also made in our future; the future of naturalists, sportsman/women, hunters, fisher and future gun owners.  Create a love for the outdoors in future generations by getting involved.  The most successful businesses are those that give back to their community.

God bless...

  1. Kids who are brought up with outdoors skills are less likely to become involved in drugs and alcohol. They learn not just outdoors skills but life skills and lessons. I feel so strongly about this that I became a volunteer Hooked On Fishing - Not On Drugs instructor after my kids left the nest. I taught my own, now I absolutely love teaching others. Each child who participates has to be accompanied by an adult so kids and adults get started in fishing.

    You said, 'I'm not a writer." I disagree. ;)

  2. Thanks Robin for your kind words! My family and I love fishing, being outdoors, and enjoying whatever beautiful surroundings we can. I was intrigued by Hooked on Fishing - Not on Drugs...I'd like to know more about the Hooked on Fishing - Not On Drugs program! That sounds right up my alley! :)

Totally Transformed

So... these days I take a lot of selfies... mainly because I cannot believe the woman in the mirror is actually me.  It’s taken a very very long time to work my way through a multitude of insecurities.  I’m here... or there now.  I love the reflection I see in the mirror these days.  It’s been difficult swallowing my sorrows and pains each time I’d pass a looking glass.  I’m here now... with a new found confidence.  I will finally finish my Education degree and become the teacher I never thought I would become!  I’m so thankful for this opportunity as it offers a freedom that many will never understand.  As for now... I’m enjoying the new me and all the wonderful friends I have accumulated over the past two years because of my transformation.  I’m also thankful for learning what I will and will not accept in my life... or my children’s.  Be blessed ❤️ Love SAM

What if ... What NOW?

There have been many times in my past 20 years, and maybe longer that I have thought about, "What if".  I've asked myself numerous times "What if I had spoken to him?", "What if I told him how I felt?", "What if I made this decision, instead of that one?".  Regardless of how many times I asked myself these types of questions, the outcome has always been the same.  I'm here now.  I can't go back and change it. With the introduction of social media, many of us reconnect with people who have almost completely vanished from our lives.  I hear numerous stories how people find old friends, old loves, make new friends and leave current loves.  It never fails to amaze me how one can walk away from the now to revisit the past, thus bringing it forward into the present.  They fix regrets, say what they have to say, do what they meant to do and attempt to leave all past hurts behind.  Does it fix it?   I'm not sure if anything is e...
